To begin with I should call this discussion “the endless search,” but instead I will keep everything on a positive note, because that is just how I’m feeling now that I’ve come across my new power tool called MODx. Every good developer/designer on the web has an opinion about a content managing system and or a framework and honestly I think I have read everyone one of them in search of the perfect tool.

My background is primarily as a front-end developer, which means that my knowledge in html, css, photoshop, javascript, flash, and on and on are up to speed and ready to get just about any project on its feet. I like to call my development side “plug and chug,” because usually I’m riffling through some asp and php scripts created by developers to grab and put variables where they need be. For me this is where MODx really shinned above any other cms that I have attempted to use. Usually I’m agonizing over how to implement my design with a particular cms (like Drupal, CakePHP, Joomla, Symfony, CodeIgniter) and with MODx everything seemed to fall into place. Using the simple beginner’s guide I was able to quickly load up an existing template, which now has a cms that is easy to manage and a framework that should make any developer happy. As I continue on this good ride called MODx I will post how things are going for me and hopefully I make the conversion easier for you.
